ATA Carnet stands for Admission Temporaire or Temporary Admission Carnet. Private travellers and corporations can use the ATA Carnet as an international customs document in more than 70 different nations. A temporary export of commercial samples, items for trade shows or exhibitions, and professional equipment is permitted by an ATA Carnet to nations that are a part of the system.

Non-perishable items can be temporarily transported between nations without incurring customs duties due to the Carnet. For products, the ATA Carnet serves as a passport. An ATA Carnet, also known as an Admission Temporaire, can be purchased and used for the following purposes or business activities:

  1. exporting goods temporarily for use outside of the UK

  2. claim relief under temporary admission for goods you bring into the UK for a limited time.

  3. pay for the transit of goods via specific nations en route to temporary use countries

You will not be responsible for paying customs duties if you use the ATA Carnet since it:

  1. simplifies the process of getting your goods through customs in both exporting and importing countries; it takes the place of the customs forms you would typically have to fill out.

  2. provides security for significant upside customs duties on goods that you’ll use in the countries you visit.

  3. does not require a customs declaration; nevertheless, form C21, an import and export customs clearance request, may be required to contain goods that are imported or exported as freight.

Who can use an ATA Carnet

A carnet can be used by both individuals and organisations, and it will either:

  1. the holder — the carnet’s front cover will bear the name of the holder.

  2. a representative — Box B of the carnet or the authorization letter will contain their name.
